Welcome!
Welcome to the Kelly / Varcoe-Cocks world trip blog in July/August 2012. This year we head to Africa, (Namibia and Botswana) traveling solo by 4wd for a month. Assuming we survive charging elephants, roaring lions and vicious hippo's we head north to London for the Olympics. After watching Australia at the Basketball, Tae Kwon Do and visiting Legoland for Luke's 9th birthday we head to Ireland to visit our multitude of friendly relatives. Homeward bound with a stop in Tokyo to really get extreme cultural experiences we will be back on the 27th August. We hope you enjoy our trip with us!

Ngepi Camp 15th July
Today has been a quiet day, but our coldest yet due to a cold wind coming off the river. We woke to a beautiful sunrise over the river and the sound of hippos grunting. After a great cooked breakfast over the river few explored the camp a bit further. Thankfully it was too cold to swim in the river pool which is supposedly fenced from crocs and hippos. The boys thought some of the bathrooms with the campsites were particularly cool, especially the unlimited stars bathroom that consisted of filling up a bucket and hoisting it up a tree. After getting some of the essentials done such as washing, blogs and diaries we ventured out to the Popa falls. On the way out we encountered a number of children busker groups ranging from 1 to 12 in age using pieces of tin as drums and dancing. They were very sweet. Liam took a video of them which is something we have started doing and the kids loved looking at themselves playing. I don't think they have seen video before. The popa falls were a bit of a let down. The belgians had camped there and are heading the same direction as us so we will see them tomorrow. We picked up some rolls from town for lunch and came back to camp. It was still really cold with the wind. As Liam and I went for a walk, the boys were very creative in coming up with a series of traps for us to pass through before reaching the house. We then had to reciprocate as they went off for a walk. I think I have missed my true calling. After our final hot showers for a while we had our own cooked dinner at the fireplace next to our house overlooking the river. Elephants are across the river and hippos are calling to us...and it's cold. We're heading further east tomorrow to take a houseboat for 3 nights up the Chobe and Zambezi rivers which will then leave us in Botswana. So we might be out of touch for a while again as we fish, avoid hippos and crocs!
