After a big day at the Olympics we took it slow in the morning heading off to the Horniman Museum for something different in South East London. Ciara came with us, she and the boys were getting on very well which was great to see. Ciara is quite adamant she doesnt want to be a girl so is happy to have her slightly older male cousins around. Everyone was hungry by the time we got to the museum, an unusual place set in 14 acres of beautiful gardens. The museum is primarily the collections of its benefactor who had obviously travelled the world extensively. After lunch, we firstly went through the small aquarium which proved to have some rare species including the Brazilian milk frog and an extremely venomous blue frog. Next was the stuffed animal and skeleton collections, traditionally presented in glass boxes with some amazing samples including pet dogs, which is always a bit disconcerting. Following that a huge collection of native African items including masks, musical items, headwear and weapons which was of particular interest to us. The final room had the biggest collection of musical instruments I have ever seen with every conceivable instrument you could think of and hundreds of others we'd never heard of or seen. Before heading back the kids played tiggy in the gardens and insisted on having their photographs taken in a variety of poses, especially Luke who seems to be becoming more of a showman every day.
After taking the train back to London, Mandy went and picked up the remaining Olypmic tickets, whilst the boys and Ciara headed home with Liam. Mandy then caught up with friends for a drink in Canary Wharf which was buzzing despite the rainy weather.
