Welcome!

Welcome to the Kelly / Varcoe-Cocks world trip blog in July/August 2012. This year we head to Africa, (Namibia and Botswana) traveling solo by 4wd for a month. Assuming we survive charging elephants, roaring lions and vicious hippo's we head north to London for the Olympics. After watching Australia at the Basketball, Tae Kwon Do and visiting Legoland for Luke's 9th birthday we head to Ireland to visit our multitude of friendly relatives. Homeward bound with a stop in Tokyo to really get extreme cultural experiences we will be back on the 27th August. We hope you enjoy our trip with us!

Arrived in Africa

We've safely arrived in Africa after 3 relatively boring flights. Boys travelled very well, but we're all feeling pretty shattered. Having said that we enjoyed sitting by the pool in 23c of sunshine, whilst we waited for our room to be ready on African time. Spotted some baboons on the way in from the airport. Windhoek really is In the middle of nowhere. Sunday afternoon and it's very sleepy with little happening so we've enjoyed a lazy afternoon after hot showers, enjoying the sunshine and playing hide and seek. We went for a walk around what turned out to be the posh part of windhoek, probably setting unrealistic expectations for the boys of Africa. Fabulous thatch rooted houses cut into the side of hills all with huge fences, barb wired at the top, guards and watch dogs. We came back to find our guesthouse full of south African 4WDs with trailers and very flash equipment. We'll be picking up our car first thing in the morning and heading off north west after stocking up with supplies. Hopefully after a good nights sleep!

  1. Very envious of the warmth and swimming pool. *sigh* Why the barbed wire and watch dogs etc? Do I really want to know? Take care of yourselves, adventurers. Jude xx
